Getting the job done right
Malcolm Thompson Pumps (MTP) had an urgent request from an Australian mining contractor to supply a Stalker Super Heavy Duty (SHD Pump) to a mine site in Western Australia.
Problem
This particular mine site had an existing Durco pump which was failing to get water out of the pit, meaning it was cutting off access to a section of the mine. This was impacting greatly on the mine sites operations and affecting the mines ROI.
Solution
Our client needed a rapid solution to this problem. A larger Durco replacement had a long lead time and due to the urgent nature of this situation, a solution was needed in days rather than weeks.
They turned to MTP’s Stalker Pumps range toresolve this problem and it was decided the Stalker Super Heavy Duty (SHD) Pump would be a good fit for what was required. The castings were also made in Chrome Iron, ensuring high resistance to abrasion, wear and corrosion.
With Stalker Pumps, a division of Malcolm Thompson Pumps, being an Australian owned company manufactured in Australia, MTP knew the lead time was achievable with the pump being in stock and ready to be overhauled in their Kalgoorlie workshop. Nevertheless, work needed to be started immediately as MTP’s engineering and design team needed to overhaul an 110kW motor, modify the framework and powder coat, fit new couplings and laser align the pump and motor – all within a turnaround of 4 days.
Results
The Stalker SHD Series, which is primarily designed for mine dewatering purposes, was the perfect solution within this critical timeframe. Our client was very impressed with MTP’s swiftness in providing a successful solution to this issue that could have had a substantial impact on the mine sites operations. The Stalker SHD Series proved again to be a high quality and reliable product within the mining industry, with the MTP team coming in under schedule by one day.
