Custom Rebuild of Diesel-Driven Firefighting Pump Power to Put Out Any Fire!

Background

Our farming client’s firefighting diesel-driven Stalker 40HL pump, purchased in 2004 and hard-working from the back of their truck since, was approaching the end of its operational life. As the unit was critical, and facing obsolescence, the need arose for a prompt replacement to ensure the farm was able to maintain fire response reliability.

Challenge

The original 40HL pump used was no longer in production, posing its own challenges due to outdated technology and lack of spare parts. The client therefore required a solution that not only matched, but exceeded, the performance of the current pump – while also fitting within the constrained space at the rear of the firefighting truck.

Solution

With the discontinuation of the previous pump model, MTP was committed to use their innovative approach to deliver a superior solution. The MTP Engineering team proposed a more efficient and cost-effective alternative – the Deutz F3L2011 engine-driven Stalker ISO 80×50-250 centrifugal pump. This solution included a custom-designed base frame that was able to be tailored to fit the limited space on the truck.

Key Components of the Solution:

Kensho K21 12V Enclosed Panel Engine Controller: Ensured seamless operation and monitoring of the diesel engine, enhancing overall system reliability.

Engine Exhaust with a Rain Cap: This was added as a protective covering for the exhaust pipe to prevent any entry of water, animals, or birds.

Deutz F3L2011 Diesel Engine: Known for its reliability and efficiency, this engine provided the necessary power to drive the new centrifugal pump.

Stalker ISO 80×50-250 Centrifugal Pump: Designed to meet modern firefighting standards, this pump offered enhanced performance capabilities.

Custom SAE Engine Drive Adaptor: This was designed and integrated to suit the diesel engine whilst maintaining a compact close-coupled pump package.

Massey Ferguson Red Paint Finish: Applied to both the pump and base frame, meeting firefighting pump standards while ensuring durability and visibility.

Results

Following the successful installation of the upgraded pump package, the client experienced immediate improvements in operational efficiency. The new system not only met, but surpassed performance expectations during field tests, demonstrating increased capacity to handle higher flow rates as required. The client’s feedback highlighted their satisfaction with the cost-effective solution, MTP’s professional work ethic, and the consistent professional communication throughout the entire design and manufacturing process.

Conclusion

This collaboration between MTP Engineering and our client demonstrates a successful case of innovative problem-solving and effective project management. By replacing the outdated pump with the latest Stalker Pump technology and a custom designed solution, MTP Engineering reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a reliable, high-performance system that enhance our client’s operational capabilities and ensure safety.
